Hello All!

I have no pictures to show, but thought I would give a quick little update.

Life has been super crazy lately! I got an unexpected job at a flooring company, so we are moving to the Salt Lake area! I am excited to

{1} be doing something more related to my degree,

{2} be working everyday with one of my bests, Brighton!

{3} be closer to family, and

{4} move on with our lives!

It is a little bittersweet to be leaving Logan, but mostly we are excited to do something new.

Logan has been busy finishing the semester, working, and is getting ready for finals, while I have been juggling my job here, training someone new, online training for my new jobs in the evening, working the new job on weekends, along with some design jobs on the side. Needless to say we haven't had much time to take pictures! But soon, hopefully soon.

We move in a little over a week, and I can't wait to settle into our new place. I will post pictures once I am done playing. Love that I will have something new to decorate!

{Catch Up}

Oh my. I'm sorry. I have a million excuses why I have been to busy to blog lately (and I think all of them are extremely valid), but I am going to do a little catch up to rid myself of guilty blog feelings. Things might be a bit backwards, but here you have it!

A few weeks ago my friends Jamie, Sara and I decided to try out our domestic skills by decorating cupcakes. PINK LEMONADE cupcakes. Yes, they are as good as they sounds. You can find the recipe here.

Our inspiration for decorating them came from Martha Stewart. They did not turn out like Martha Stewart cupcakes.

But we were pretty proud of them anyways!

This is how good they were...

In January we went to Jamie and Derek's cabin at Bear Lake. We just played games and partied, and the guys played some ice hockey. Nolan was the only one who would wear skates. It was such a nice sunny day for it!

New Years Eve

The annual Walhen family party at a hotel. It's always a blast! I don't know where else I would fall off my chair during a card game, giving myself a HUGE bump on my forearm for weeks.

I made my mom these pillows for Christmas, and even though they were kind of a nightmare, I love how they turned out! I got a sewing machine for Christmas, and I am determined to become more talented in that area.

{Pillows}

Remember these pillows? Sad, dreary pillows....

Well, my friend Chels decided she would be willing to help me make some new pillows to brighten up my sofa. The only sewing I have ever done was in a class in high school. Needless to say, I don't have a finished product of any project, and the pieces of a dress laid in a bag until I got married and threw them away. Don't know how I passed that class, but you get the point. But, we found the cutest fabric shop in Preston, and it inspired me! :) So, my first attempt at sewing went pretty good if I do say so myself.

I saw this fabric called around the world and I had to have it. It has landmarks from famous cities, and you know I love traveling. Those Russian building tops were just calling me.
And so was this tree......

Then I saw this yellow fabric. Fantastic color + fantastic graphic = fantastic pillow.

So now my sofa looks sooo much happier! That plum pillow on the right still has to be topped off with a big buttion in the middle.

Yay for me! I am no longer frightened of sewing machines. In fact, I want one.

We had a great Halloween weekend this year. Family and friends.

Update!

So Logan's test was a couple weeks ago. He left the house a little before 6:00 am to have breakfast with some friends that were taking it too. They had to be there at 7:15, tested until 12:15, had 1 hour for lunch, and tested again until around 5:30 pm. His poor friend Derek had to take it even though it was his birthday. YUCK! He won't know his results until after Christmas or so, but for now, we can relax a little. He studied so much that I'm sure he did great! Now we just have to wait...

Finally!

This Saturday Logan takes the FE Exam. 8 hours, 1 break. He has been studying his little butt off since the middle of the summer. We can't wait for it to be over, Logan so he can stop worrying about it, and me so he can spend more time with me.

Fall Break!

For fall break we spent time at our friend's cabin up Logan canyon. We spent the night on Friday, came home on Saturday so Logan could study, and went back up Saturday night to party. Luckily it was only about 10 minutes up the canyon, so it was pretty convenient. Friday night we made dutch oven dinners and hung out, then slept in their trailer. Saturday night we grilled, hung around the fire again, and then watched a scary movie! It was way too fun.

I finished these announcements the other day for my cousin Scott and his wife Korin. They are actually baby blue-gray, not teal. I did them really quick, but I think they turned out pretty great!

So we found these little tables at the D.I. for $10 each. They were a nasty yellow tanish color but I could see potential in them, so we snatched them up. They have been sitting in my dad's basement forever because we didn't have time to work on them, but over conference weekend we got them going, and they are finally done! We are using them as our coffee table for now, but I'm not sure where they will end up for sure.

Also, for enrichment the other night we decorated the cutest pumkins, with things like yard and ribbon and felt. Cute huh?!

A couple random friend things...

Last night I went to dinner with some of the girls that were in Interior Design with me. We haven't seen each other since we graduated {other than a couple random run-ins}, so it was a blast to get together again! After we ate we went up to the studio to reminisce and check in on the poor sophomores/juniors/seniors, some of whom do not yet know what they have gotten themselves into. As expected, they were hard at work, watching movies and working on their tiny house projects! It was fun to be back there, but a little sad that those 4 years have come and gone. Luckily, the 5 of us happen to be the lame-o's who still live in Logan and have the same jobs as we did when we were in school, so we will have the chance to get together regularly. :) GO US!

For Logan's 25th birthday, I was somewhat able to pull off a surprise party for Logan. His parents agreed to come up to Logan and take him to dinner as a distraction, while everyone arrived at our apartment. It wasn't a complete surprise {I now have a deep respect for people who can somehow keep everything a complete secret from someone they live with}, but he was a little surprised. If you can't tell, it was themed for Logan's year of birth {1984}. We just crammed ourselves in our little apartment and ate food, played rock band {thanks to my dad and Diana for lending it to us}, and hung out! It was soo much fun!

Park City Weekend

Last weekend, after a crazy busy week at work, and an even crazier busier friday and work, I was able to my all the girls on my mom's side of the family up in park city for a girl's night out! We stayed in the cutest condo, ate junk food, and played!

Then on Saturday we rode the extreme zip line, watched some of the US opympic team practice ski jumps into a swimming pool, ate lunch and went to the outlets.

So, my sister is starting a little business making hair bows that match the clothing lines at Naartjie. If you have ever been to Naartjie you know that it is the most darling store! She happens to work there, and was inspired to make bows for the outfits she bought for Sophie, her little one. We got to take a short vacation with Heather and Jory over the 24th of July. We celebrated Utah, by leaving it. :) We had such a good time! We drove Thursday night, stayed in Primm (Buffalo Bills has a swimming pool shaped like a Buffalo, great huh!), and finished the drive Friday morning, straight to Newport Beach.

Yes, we love this car! We would take it in a heart beat.

YES!!!

For all you guys who prefer not to be Harry Potter nerds (which is most of both sides of our family), I'm sorry for you! :) We went to a HP party with a bunch of our friends a few days before the movie came out, and it was a blast!

Oh, YAY!

Finally. The last 4 years have gone by fast and slow. I've accomplished a lot and made a lot of friends along the way. It feels great!

Finally!!! Now no one can bug me about not posting since August.

So Logan and I have been married for almost a year, and it got me thinking about what was happening a year a go and I thought I would put on some pictures from my thoughts.

Labor Day a year ago, Log and I got up early and watched the sunrise. We spent the day with both of our families, and then we took the jeep up Farmington canyon to watch the sunset. This happened to be the first time Logan said I love you. :) (In the morinng on my roof)

I was also remembering September 25th of last year. The day Logan proposed! Up in Dry canyon.

Labor Day Weekend

Over Labor Day Weekend we went with my family to St. George and stayed at my aunt Linda's beautiful house. We relaxed and swam in the pool and shopped and just hung out. We also went to Tuacan theater to watch Les Mis, which happens to be my favorite broadway show! Unfortunately that was the only thing we took pictures of.

In August Logan turned 24. We met his parents and little brother in Brigham and we went to eat at Maddox. It was lot's of fun!

The first week we were back in Utah after the summer, we went to Lagoon with some of my family. It was so much fun! I hadn't been there in years so it was fun to see all the new rides.

The little kids were there which made it really fun. Gabby loved most of the little kid rides but Jack and Ella wouldn't really go for any of them. Jack was brave on the first ride....until it started moving. You can tell he's not so happy.

New York...one last time

I may have talked about this before, but one of my favorite places to go in Manhattan was Serendipity. It is a pricy restaurant with delicious desserts and a reputation of attracting celebrities. You have probably seen it on either the movie Serendipity or One Fine Day. I had been there a few times but finally got to take Logan there with a couple of our friends at the end of the summer. So here we are drinking their famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. It is wonderful!

I know it has been over a month since I have posted anything. Things have been super busy since moving back from New York, moving into a new apartment and starting school and work again! But I will update with pictures as soon as I find time!

Washington DC

Yesterday was definitely an adventure! We woke up super early, and drove with some or our friends to DC! We left at 5 am so that we would have the whole day to see things. We got to see a lot!

First we went out to breakfast, and then we made our first stop at Arlington Cemetery. It was amazing to see all of those gravestones. There are still an average of 27 soldiers buried there each weekday. This is only a fraction of the 600 or so acres of the cemetery.

President Kennedy's grave, as well as his family's. Above it is the Eternal Flame. Just like it sounds, it has never stopped burning since he died. If there is a bad storm, they take part of the flame and bring it somewhere safe, so that the flame really can never be extinguished. Crazy!

We got to see the changing of the gaurds, as well as a ceremony for a soldier. It was really neat.

This is an amphitheater where a lot of speeches are made I guess!

Next we went over to where the other sites are. They are all around the same area so it was just walking from one to the next.

This is a building that has something to do with agriculture, I can't remember exactly which one it is. The point of putting it on here is to show what all of the buildings look around Washington Monument. They are all massive and exquisite like this. It looked awesome!

As you walk up to the monument it looks like it is made of brick. Then you get close and they are more like Giant bricks. This is how big they are compared to Log!

This is the best picture we could get of the White House. They didn't let you get close enough for a good picture. But we did see the President's helicopter land in his front yard. If you look close at this picture you can see it right in front between the trees.

The helicopter left just a couple minutes later, along with the guard helicopter. Here it is flying away! Was it picking up the President? Dropping him off? Who knows, but it was cool!

On one side of the Monument is the Capitol, and on the other side is the Lincoln Memorial, which you see here!

You can see in our faces in the next two pictures how our enthusiasm for seeing Lincoln was drained after walking in the scorching heat all day and being on the verge of dehydration.

This is the group we came with, minus Jacque, who was taking the picture, and Jackson, who is in the stroller that Log is holding on to. So no, that is not our stroller. :)

After seeing all of this we went to the Holocaust Museum. It was amazing, and kind of depressing. But I think it was one of my favorite things of the day. Then we decided against our better judgment to walk to the National Archives to see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. We were so exhausted from the heat and walking that we were in and out in just a couple minutes, and didn't take pictures. We weren't thinking very straight by then because we were so hungry. We ended the journey going to dinner, and driving home again! We didn't get home til 2 am because of some strange middle-of-the-night traffic. We had such a blast with everyone though, and we are so glad we got to see DC!!!

A few weeks ago Log and I went to Coney Island after church to relax on the beach. It felt amazing to lay on the beach!

Kade's home!

Logan's parents went to pick up Kade from his mission in Philly. The day before they flew back home they drove up to visit. We went out to breakfast and drove them around the city a little so Kade could see it. Kade and I had never met, it is weird that I have a brother-in-law that I don't know, I am so used to my new family now! But it's great that he is coming home! It will be fun to get to know another member of the family!

Palmyra

Last Sunday we decided to drive up to Palmyra. We left in the morning, and it took a little over 5 hours to get there. It was so beautiful!

Around the temple were fields of grass and trees, it was so pretty! I am sad we didn't take a picture of it. You couldn't see a building at all from anywhere on the grounds. It is in the perfect location.

This is the Smith's first home. 12 people lived in here. Crazy!

Just down the road on the farm is the Smith's second home. This is where Joseph hid the plates. It was kind of surreal to see it all in person.

I'm glad we had the chance to go there. It really is such a wonderful place!

Okay, first of all I apologize for the massive size of this post. Log's parents came to visit and their short stay required us to cram the city into one day. We saw a lot and it was a blast! But we were also very tired.....

China Town! This is the cute part of Chinatown. The rest is just packed with people and full of hundreds of knock-0ff purses. Needless to say, we left with 6 purses that we didn't arrive with.

We ate lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant. The food was way good and very inexpensive!

Then we made our way up to Times Square. Jim doesn't like smiling in pictures...

We went to see Hairspray to give us a break from the heat and the walking. It was way good! If you like the movie, I recommend seeing the Broadway. It is just as good, and has a few songs that aren't in the movie. Loved it!

David Letterman.....

We walked through central park a little bit. This is The Mall, a long dirt walkway lined with trees. It is really pretty, and the shade felt great!

For dinner we made sure that Jim and Pam got to try some New York Pizza. Thank goodness they got their Diet Cokes for the day!

Don't wear flip flops on an all-day excursion in NYC. Your feet won't appreciate it. We didn't take pictures of the blisters on Jim's toes, so be grateful for that.

Top of the Rock

While my mom was here, I met up with her after work one day at Rockefeller Center to go up to the top. It was so much fun!
Here we are in front of the plaza. It is a lot smaller than it looks on TV.

Central Park and the Hudson River. Just on the other side of the river, about as far North as you can see in this picture, that's about where we live, in Fort Lee, NJ!

Brooklyn way out there. I could almost see Log knocking on doors.

Empire State Building just as it lit up. It was actually getting dark in this picture and all the buildings lit up looked beautiful, but my camera made it look like daytime.

Kinda blurry, with glass reflections. Oh well.

Celebrity Sightings

One of the advantages of working in Soho is that it is the perfect place to spot celebrities. I have seen three already within a block or two of the building I work at. These aren't pictures I took, because I don't carry my camera to work with me and I am usually too distracted when I see them to think of using my phone camera.

First I saw Renee Zellweger, when I went to Starbucks to get a frappuccino for lunch. Only she didn't look like this! She was this skinny, but she was really sweaty and gross, wearing workout clothes.

A couple weeks later I walked past Neil Haskell. He may not be a big celebrity but if you are a fan of So You Think You Can Dance, my favorite show, you will know him as last year's almost winner! He looked pretty much like this, and was just shopping on Broadway in Soho.

This week I saw David Schwimmer! He was just standing on the corner by my work chatting some other guys. He looked pretty much like this too, but without the jackets! He was just in a t-shirt.

Next time I will try to be on my guard so I can take a picture myself!

4th of July

For the 4th of July Logan took the day off work, so we could go to the Yankees Redsox game! It was a blast! The weather was a perfect overcast, so it wasn't super hot. It started raining in the 7th inning but until then it was great.

We were super excited to be able to spend a day together that wasn't a Sunday!
Yankee Stadium!! We were lucky enough to come to a game before their last season here is over!

Our seats were in the bleachers right behind the Redsox bullpen.

We did our best to eat as much junk food as possible. Nachos, pretzel, frozen lemonade, etc...

Don't ask me why Log is making this face. He gets really excited when he doesn't have to shave for work, so he took advantage of that for his day off!

At the end of the game the Redsox won 6-4. We went into Midtown Manhattan after if was over and ate some more junk. Huge peices of pizza! mmmmmm...We were going to see some fireworks, we thought there would be some really great ones in New York, but we were tired and decided to go back and watch a movie instead. We fell asleep after like ten minutes and ended up going to bed at like 10:30 to get some much needed sleep! It was a really good day!

Concert in the Park

A couple weeks ago Logan's work treated everyone to pizza. We were supposed to meet at this park on the river in Edgewater. We were lucky enough to be some of the few that went a little early. This meant that we were foolish enough to go even though the sky looked like it was going to explode any second. We got this picture taken before the downpour. That is the George Washington Bridge in the back, that I take over to Manhattan everyday for work.

Suddeny this lighting crashed on the water right by where the park is, and is started pouring so hard. This was right when the pizza got there, and here we are taking cover under a bunch of trees. Safe huh?

Our friend Troy, after about 30 seconds of rain, even with the shelter of trees. After this we made a run for the car, but half way there we realized it was pointless. It was like we had jumped into the river. In the parking lot we found all the cars who had arrived after the rain started, laughing at us from their dry seats. It was pretty funny!

Later that evening we went to the Summer Stage in Central Park for a free concert. The artist was Yael Naim. You have probably heard her song on the imac commercial. I love her!

Statue of Liberty

A few weeks ago my mom came to stay with us for a week. She spent most of the day sight seeing NYC by herself since Logan and I work everyday, but on Sunday we all took a ferry from Liberty State Park in Jersey to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. It was really neat!

We took a walking tour around the Statue, it was way cool to learn so many things about her that I would have never known.
For example, I wouldn't have the pleasure of knowing that the frightening, ugly(in the nicest way possible) face of the statue was that of the sculptures mother. Eek!
Also, did you know that she is only two pennies thick?

Central Park

One Sunday in May Logan and I went into Central Park after church to have a picnic. Unfortunately we chose the weekend of the first heat wave and it was unbearably hot, but we still had a good time! Because of the heat we didn't even see half of the park, or even close, but we saw the things we wanted to see.

The night before we made chocolate covered strawberries to bring along...yum!

We made the mistake of putting them in the freezer instead of the fridge, so they were really cold at first, then thawed into strawberry mush. We learned our lesson!

New York!

We finally started a blog! We are in New York!!! We have been here for a couple months so there will be some catching up to do. Here are a few pictures of what we have been up to!

The first time Logan and I went into the city together we went to times square. You will notice in the video that we had a chinese guy take our picture, which turned out to be a video. You can here him counting down.

After this we went to see a broadway for my birthday, but we forgot to take a picture there. We went to see Legally Blonde, it was cute!
